Research Summary

My current research interests include the application of morphometric methods to develop biologically meaningful phenotypes to enhance the search for genetic factors underlying etiologically complex craniofacial birth defects, particularly nonsyndromic orofacial clefting.  To this end, my dissertation research included landmark-based morphometric analysis of the craniofacial complex in the unaffected relatives of cleft individuals using state-of-the-art 3D surface imaging technology.  Forthcoming research endeavors will include the application of neuroimaging techniques to assess brain morphology in CL/P populations and dissecting the genetic underpinnings of normal craniofacial variation.
